Women in STEM Career Day 2025
Inspiring the future of STEM at LA Harbor College

There is STEM in the air!

The sun shone through the clouds as the Latinas in STEM banner waved with the wind. The day was bright compared to the rainstorm the day before. The rain clouds cleared and the light coastal wind blew, a great day to explore STEM companies and organizations at the EXP Women in STEM Career Day 2025.

“Is that tree fossil? That is super cool.”
-- student at the Latinas in STEM booth.

During the EXP event, Latina in STEM’s volunteer Dr. Daisy introduced various STEM activities to high school students— color coding with a robot,  the fluorescent properties of orange lentils, and Silurian fossils. Students eagerly gathered around the table to take a look behind these activities and specimens. This led to discussions of transfer skills in careers, challenges along the STEM journey, science communication, and internship opportunities!

Dr. Daisy was also a STEM panelist. After the panelists briefly discussed their scientific journeys, a lively discussion between the students and the panelists occurred. The students had thoughtful questions such as “what is something you wish you did the same or differently in your career? How do you prevent burnout from your job? When should you find an internship?” The discussion was so successful, the panel went a bit over the time limit!

Latinas in STEM was thrilled to be invited to Women in STEM Career Day 2025. We interacted with over 300 high school girls with aspirations to be computer scientists, nurses, and engineers. Thank you EXP for such a great event and we cannot wait until next year!
