Latinas in STEM is hosting a conference for middle school girls in the Bay Area! We are in need of a few volunteers to make the day come alive for these young women.
We are anticipating 125 girls at the event and are in need of multiple volunteers both in STEM careers and in college pursuing STEM fields. Oftentimes girls are unaware of what a STEM career is or that women are successful in those areas. By volunteering, you provide role models for our young women and help further open path. This conference will give students in grades 6-8 an opportunity to hear from STEM professionals, participate in an exciting hands-on activity building bristle bots and compete for STEM prizes. In order for our event to be a success, we need you! We need talented STEM professionals and students to share their STEM journey and co-facilitate the hands-on workshop. (training provided via video conferencing) Please consider volunteering your time for this one-day event. Your time commitment will be from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm, and the impact on students lives will be significant. During the event, you will co-lead a hands on workshop and share information on the engineering design process and your STEM journey. We will provide all materials and the template for your STEM journey presentation (1 slide). If you are interested in volunteering, please register as a Workshop Facilitator and email Maribel Mendoza so that she can provide you with additional information.
